One Paw at a Time:
A Service Learning Project

Mission: To promote respect, compassion, education and advocacy resulting in a humane and sustainable environment for all animals.

The RHSPCA dedicates their time and efforts to the prevention of animal cruelty. To prevent the cruelty of animals, this organization hosts humane education programs within the Rockingham-Harrisonburg community and works to increase humane protection of animals under law. The employees and volunteers of the RHSPCA strive to rescue, protect, and place animals in forever loving homes.

The main goals of the RHSPCA are to find forever homes for animals, teach the public on humane practices through workshops and newsletters, and reuniting lost animals with their families. The RHSPCA also offers a wide range of humane puppy and adult training classes. The RHSPCA is also an open admission animal shelter and accepts all pets with the hope of saving as many lives as they can.

In order to address the social issues and to meet their goals, the RHSPCA puts forward their efforts to educate the public on who they are and what they stand for. The RHSPCA does this through hosting fundraising and adoption events at local businesses, promoting the adoption and educational events through social media, and constantly updating their website with the current adoptable animals. The RHSPCA strives to steadily maintain a positive relationship with the community.
